Our country and hometown : France and Lyon

In Lyon we have a festival called " la fête des lumières". It is a popular event. It is held every year for four days around December 8. The whole town is lit up and we put lanterns on our windows to thank the Virgin Mary.

Les halles Paul Bocuse
The halles Paul Bocuse is lyon's largest covered market. The name Paul Bocuse is a tribute to the most famous Lyon's chef Paul Bocuse.

Bellecour
Bellecour is a district of the 2nd arrondissement of the city of Lyon. It is the fifth largest square in France. There are luxury shops, cafes, restaurants, and many tourist shops.

Silk is part of Lyon's memory. The great Lyon tradition were the butterflies that brought the French style and its refinement to Europe and around the world. The canuts are the name of the workers who make silk.

Guignol is a French hand puppet created in Lyon around 1808 by Laurent Mourguet. This is the typical Lyon puppet. In French a "guignol" is a person who makes people laugh by his gestures and his funny faces. Guignol lived in the gourguillon rope (old town).

The Roman theatre of Lyon is a vestige of the ancient civilization of France. The theatre is one of the main Roman monuments still visible. It can hold up to 10 000 people. During the Roman time, France was called Gaul and was ruled by the Roman Empire.
