News for Teachers

Viking Library Newsletter

Several sixth-grade English classes spent a day in the library with a spooky story and clues for a Halloween Breakout EDU lesson. Students had to find text evidence to prove their answers in groups to crack the codes. Have an idea and want some help? Email Ms. Waugh to brainstorm.

What's been going on? A lot!

Around the library lately

Sixth-grade geography classes had a blast learning about North American regions while catching Pokémon characters throughout the lesson. Students worked very hard reading through the CultureGrams database to find answers to an online form before watching 360 videos about each region.

Ms. Slaughter is hosting a book club, The Page Turners, every Wednesday morning from 7:55-8:15 a.m. Have your students join the Google Meet with code page. We are currently reading Time Bomb, so don't let your early bird students miss the fun...and the drama!

The Vanston Staff Book Club had its first meeting on Oct. 30. The next meeting to discuss We Ride Upon Sticks is Tuesday, Dec. 1, after school in the library.

Thank for making the Vanston virtual book fair a success! Funds raised can be used to purchase books from Scholastic, so if there is a title you think we need, let me know! I plan to order in December.

TumbleBooks

Did you know about this? Let's discuss!

Located in the Library: Find a Book folder, this is one that can even serve as a reward for good behavior by reading a title the class wants at the end of the lesson. With kids getting anxious for the upcoming breaks, take a few minutes for a short storytime more often.

TumbleBooks may seem elementary, but all students love short stories that relate to your subject or lesson objective. Plus these stories are interactive and move on the screen while a narrator reads it to you. This is a fun way to include reading in any lesson, espeically around the holidays.
