- Cell membrane: the boundary of an animal cell which regulates the moment of materials in and out of the cell
- Cytoplasm: clear, thick protoplasm that fills the space between the cell membrane and nucleus; suspends the organelles
- Nucleus: contains proteins, enzymes, and hereditary material; considered the control center of the cell
- Mitochondria: considered the powerhouse of the cell through the oxidation (breakdown) of sugars
- Centrioles: each cell has two, necessary for cell reproduction
- Endoplasmic reticulum (smooth): contains many enzymes necessary for cell metabolism (breaking down of foods and building cell substances)
- Endoplasmic reticulum (rough): protein production and transportation of protein throughout the cell
- Lysosomes: contains enzymes for food digestion
- Golgi Apparatus: packages large groups of protein molecules into vesicles
Vacuoles: store food, enzymes, and other materials; also, a temporary dumping place for waste products
- Ribosomes: small organelles of protein production
