The cigarette as a symbol of a change in his life and a new beginning. After being fired as the verger of the Church, he wanted to a cigarrete to confort him, but he couldn't find any shop that sold cigarretes, so he decided to start his own business.

Verger's gown

The verger's gown as a symbol of his work in the church.The story tells that he is proud of his gowns. He keeps it in tidy and pleasant conditions because he think it is a dignified symbol of his office. He can't throw them, maybe it could be because he thought he would never be fired.
