eTwinning Project Schools defenders of the Earth 2020-2021

The purpose of our project is to inform and raise awareness of the causes of climate change and to take action to eradicate them and create a green planet. In this project we want Coding to become a tool to enrich our teaching practice.

  • Let's reduce our waste
  • Let's spend less energy / Let's save water
  • Save the oceans
  • Let us make the earth green
  • Save the animals

Dance

Students through this activity they will transform to super heroes in order to Save the Earth. They will use the song of Costanzo Padovano “Climate Change”. They will collaborate to each other and decide about the movements they are going to use for their dance. They can make a video/ or take photos of their dance in order to share it among other schools.

Back

Students with the help of their teacher are going to create a story by getting inspired of the illustration of Jérémie Carpentier. About the fires in Australia. They have to wonder “If this picture is the beginning of a story, what might happen next?”. Then they will illustrate the story.

Coding through storytelling

Tip: You can record your students’ voice when they narrate the story. Then you can use qr codes and connect them with the recorded narration. Students can use a portable device in order to scan the qr codes and listen to the narration, when Foxie Planet is in the right square.

Save the animals: coding through storytelling

The cards (children's drawings) or the objects are placed on the grid we have created. The main goal is to help Foxie Planet ( the robot) to narrate the story. The first team will prepare the grid and place the elements. The second team will plan the route, the third team will program Foxie Planet. Clearly teams can have and other roles. They can also change roles during the activity.

How do animals feel? The children in groups carefully observe images with dogs, their face and body and try to guess how they feel, utilizing the "Step inside" thinking routine. Then utilizing the "What makes you say that" routine, the team argues for its views. After the team decides how it feels and why the dog, the teacher records it in a thought bubble. Children are beginning to realize that animals also feel some of the emotions that humans experience. Finally, a group collage is created. Τhen, images are placed on the grid depicting people with similar emotions to those of the animals observed by the groups. Each group, after presenting the image of the animal that worked, observes the grid and identifies the image of the person who feels a corresponding emotion. The team programs the robot to lead it to that square.

Students through this activity they are asked to help Mr. Octopus and collect garbage from the oceans by planning his correct route and programming the robot. Divided into three groups, one group assembles the Ocean grid on the floor and decides on the beginning and end of the track. The second team hide in some squares of the grid objects that pollute the sea, trapped animals. The third group plan for Mr. Octopus - rescuer the right route, with the direction-cards in order to help him to collect the garbage and free the trapped animals. This activity can be implemented also unplugged, without using any educational robotic kit.

The above activity can be done without a robotics kit. The teacher draws the grid on the floor with classroom materials (paper tape, chalk, newspapers). The children are divided into small groups of five. One of the team decides on the beginning and the end of the route & hides the objects that pollute the sea or trapped animals. The two co-decide and plan the route for the child - Robot Mr. Octopus. One undertakes to "read" the cards and programs the child-Robot by giving him verbal instructions to pick up the garbage and release the trapped animals.

Students are going to help Foxie Planet to search at the school yard all the elements needed in order to fix a bird nest by recycled objects. The game is based around the following simple activities: scanning “QR Codes” that represent locations to reach and also solving puzzles and quizzes, in order to win more clues and objects.

Treasure hunt

Find it use it

We will use the Cody Rody board and cards

We will use the web 2.0 tools
