Then Julius was assassinated by some senators and his nephew OCTAVIAN AUGUSTUS became emperor in 27 bC.

JULUIS CAESAR won most of the wars and was proclaimed DICTATOR

In the 1st and 2nd Century AD There was a period of stability and prosperity with many good emperors like : Vespasian, Trajan or Marcus Aurelius. This period was called PAX ROMANA

Ruralisation: people went to live to the countryside

Trade declined because it was no longer safe to travel but taxes increased to pay wars

Many emperors were killed
