World Values Day

15th October 2020

Values are the things that are important to us, the foundation of our lives. They guide our choices and behaviours and influence our emotions.Values are what make us who we are. It’s the same for our families, for our school communities, for the wider community around the school, and for society as a whole. Our values show us the way.

There is a wider impact when we forget our values. If we don’t live our values to the full in our lives, we will be prone to unhappiness and stress and our wellbeing will suffer, and there will be a negative effect on our friends and families, on the groups and organisations we belong to, andon the communities we live in. So, if we want to change the world for the better, then we have to change our own behaviours. The best way to do that is for all of us to live our own values to the full every day in everything we do.

GUIDE

This year's focus is on putting our values into action. Putting them into action each and every day will have a powerful impact on our own wellbeing, the wellbeing of the groups and communities we belong to, and the wellbeing of the whole world.

  1. Think about all the values that are important to you.
  2. Identify a value that is most important to you at the current time and reflect on whether you are really living that value, both in relation to yourself and to others.
  3. Think of a way to put that value into action and make it a bigger part of your life. Keep it as simple and practical as you can.
  4. Then tell the world! Share on social with #WorldValuesDay – use images, gifs, or take a selfie with our pre-made template during or after the action.

Now let's put those values into action.Think of an action that you can take right now, or very soon, to live that value more fully to make a difference for your own wellbeing and the wellbeing of others. Yes, go do it! Today, tomorrow or as soon as you can. Share what you’ve done on social media or on the eTwinning project's TwinSpace.

  • To what extent are we really living our values at our school every day, and what issues are we encountering in doing so?
  • What personal value could we put more effectively into action at school?
  • What specific action can we take with others that will strengthen the practice of that value?
  • Can we commit to doing this on World Values Day and beyond?
