WELCOME
We are pleased that we have been selected as your child’s 2020-2021 fifth-grade teachers! We are delighted to help nourish, grow, and direct their educational paths. We have very clear expectations and hope you can support the vision we have for the year. Please look at the additional slides to view each expectation. If you have any questions please direct them to CLASS DOJO messaging. We look forward to a successful year!

Most communication will be directed through CLASS DOJO story and messaging. Cripps & Miller are typically at school from 7:30-4:00. We can reply to your messages during that time period, but it may take 24-36 hours before we’re able to do so. Of course if there’s something urgent, call the office and they’ll get in touch with us (658-1892).

Every student will be accountable for attendance. If a student is late signing on to the HomeRoom Zoom session by 8am, they will be tardy. If a student is not present to their assigned Zoom sessions with either teacher, they will be marked absent for the day. BCS Virtual School Policy:

Every student will be graded for assignments, assessments, effort, and any other form of grades that they would generally be responsible for in regular school. Students will be trained on how to access and interpret their grades in PowerSchool GradeBook. Parents are encouraged to access PowerSchool GradeBook regularly through the Parent Portal (click here) to monitor their child's grades. Report cards and progress reports will no longer be provided. Miss Cripps and Mr. Miller will inform parents/students when grades will be posted and specific deadlines. In general, grades are updated once every 1-3 weeks, depending on the number of grades and the subject.

1. Enter each Zoom session ON TIME, or before time. Don't be late - otherwise, you'll be marked tardy and miss out on essential directions given at the beginning. 2. Keep yourself MUTED until you're called on by the teacher. 3. Keep your VIDEO ON to show that you are present for the session. 4. Make sure you are in a quiet room with no other people, animals, or unnecessary noises. Please don't Zoom with us in a place where a parent/guardian is working or talking in the background. Don't Zoom near a sibling where they are doing their schoolwork or trying to Zoom with their teachers. Again - no pets, no brothers or sisters! 5. You will not be allowed to alter your name, your background, or use the chat function - except with special permission from your teacher. 6. When you want to speak, raise your hand (just like in class), and wait to be called on by your teacher BEFORE you unmute yourself to speak. 7. Pick a permanent place to set up for a virtual class. This helps with focus and attentiveness during the zoom meeting. This does not include a shared space with siblings or lying down in bed.8. No TOYS near you!

MATH
HOMEWORK
All homework assignments will be posted on the Miller Calendar that you can access from Miller’s school website or linked here (below). You should bookmark this calendar - it will be the “go to” for due dates and will usually contain digital copies of the homework (no excuse for losing homework or leaving it at school).Students will receive a separate grade for turning homework in on time!Weekly Math/Science Packet: Assigned either as a 2-page packet at the beginning of the week, or 2 separate 1-page assignments on two separate days.Videos: occasionally there will be short videos to watch and take notes.Weekend homework will be rare and usually only videos.Projects will have several weeks of completion time.

MATH
HOMEWORK
Each assignment gets 2 grades: Math Homework is collected on the due date for a completion grade. Mr. Miller is simply collecting the work and checking that it is completed, and showing work (thinking) not just showing answers. Answers don’t have to be correct to earn a 100! Just turn it in on time, showing your work/thinking, and complete. EASY A! As a class we will usually review most of the homework assignment, allowing mistakes to be corrected as we do. When the review is done, the assignment is turned in again - this time everyone should have correct answers from the review. Another EASY A!
