The socialization of knowledge

... "the individual in his social interaction builds his own knowledge and shares it with other individuals in the community".The socialization of knowledge is a complex process, since it requires an active and leading participation of the student. How to awaken the leading role in a passive generation used to obtaining results without making the slightest effort?

Guarantee the accessibility to the concepts:It must be simple (not banal) and deep (not complicated), avoiding technical language, using accessible language and addressing topics in all their depth.

Social sharing: ensuring that knowledge is spread to the maximum number of people, covering various languages, and from urban centers to the most remote regions.

Knowledge Openness: Ensuring it is available for every single student in your class.

Prosume of knowledge: create and share the required knowledge as a group. (Prosumers all contribute the same work, capital ideas and at the same time have free access to the same knowledge generated).

ADAPTING TEACHING METHODS TO THE NEW REALITY.

“When teachers recognize diversity in their students, in terms of how and what they identify with and how they learn, and when this recognition is reflected in how teachers teach, students are free to discover new and creative ways to solve problems, achieve success, and become lifelong learners.” (Ferguson et al., 2005)

“When goals are clear, feedback relevant, and challenges and skills are in balance, attention becomes ordered and fully invested.” (Csikzentmihalyi, 1997)

“We know that learning happens best when a learning experience pushes the learner a bit beyond his or her independence level. When a student continues to work on understanding and skills already mastered, little if any new learning takes place. On the other hand, if tasks are far ahead of a student’s current point of mastery, frustration results and learning does not.” (Howard, 1994; Vygotsky, 1962)

“One is struck by the superior findings reported for visual and dramatic instruction over verbal instruction in terms of the percentage of information recalled by students one year after the completion of the unit.” (Marzano, 2003, reporting on research by Nuthall)

ACTIVe LEARNING

Why should we use active learning?

Considerations for using active learning methods.

Provides students with an opportunity to think about, talk about, and process course material.Creates a sense of community in the classroom through increased student-student and instructor-student interaction.Allows students to practice important skills, such as collaboration, through pair and group work.

Align your active learning activities with the learning outcomes of the course.Think about how you will facilitate the process every step of the way.Consider logistics before, during, and after the session.Use icebreakers to help students get comfortable with each other and set expectations for an interactive class.

The importance of white space is that it helps students better understand what is important and what is not. Plus, it paves the way for better understanding and presentation of ideas, along with effective learning design.

Color is the most important element of visual design; it has the ability to evoke appropriate reactions in students. It is always recommended to use soft and soft backgrounds for your presentations, and dark colors for the text.

Whether you have little or enough design experience, you should know that with text as primary data, images serve as complementary elements to create the necessary emotional impact.

People often make the mistake of putting all content on one slide. It is also important to consider that you will not always finish your goals in one session. Divide and conquer.

When designing a class session, keep in mind that each element should focus on making the student achieve the objectives you've set for that session.

Role-Playing

Objective: Prepare students for a job interview that will take place outside the classroom.

The challenges are not only for the students, they are also for the teachers. The new normality challenges us to be better teachers in each of the classes we teach. It is important to stay tuned in new teaching methods and technologies.

Adapting our teaching to the new reality is not an easy task.
