Our students celebrated Earth Day with various activities to earn house points. Students changed their virtual profile, painted their faces or dressed up as well as participated in specific class activities.

En enero celebramos la inauguración oficial del nuevo edificio de Infantil. Todos los platos, vaso y menaje eran de materiales biodegradables o reutilizables demostrando como estamos cambiando nuestros hábitos en el colegio para reducir el uso de plásticos.

En January we celebrated the official opening of the new Early Years premises. All the plates, cups and utensils were biodegradable or reusable demonstrating how we are changing habits within the school to reduce the use of plastic.

Los alumnos de Infantil y sus profesores han creado un mural que demuestra l0s diferentes tipos de energía- tanto renovables como no renovables. Se han usado muchos materiales reciclados para decorar el mural: cajas de huevos, palitos de piruleta e incluso el papel que sobró de los regalos de los Reyes Magos y Santa. Aquí hay fotos de los niños de 4 años preparando material reciclado y pintando el mural.

The students in Early Years and their teachers have made a mural illustrating different renewable and non-renewable sources of energy. Many parts of the mural were made from recycled materials: egg boxes, lollipop sticks, and even the leftover wrapping paper from the presents Santa and the three Kings brought! Los niños de 2 años han estado haciendo bombas de semillas para regalar a las autoridades que asistieron a la Ceremonia Oficial de Apertura del nuevo edificio de Early Years. Las bombas de semillas son pequeñas bolas de arcilla con semillas en el interior y se utilizan para replantar tierras áridas o de difícil acceso con plantas autóctonas para proteger la biodiversidad y evitar erosion.

The 2 year olds have been making seed bombs to give as presents to the dignitaries at the Official Opening Ceremony of the new Early Years premises. Seed bombs are small balls of clay with seeds inside and are used to replant barren land or areas difficult to access with autoctonous plants to help maintain biodiversity and prevent erosion..

Los alumnos de Infantil están trabajando con “The Garden Project” un proyecto incorporado en nuestro currículum para aprender sobre plantas, cómo cuidarlas y el medio ambiente. Aquí están los alumnos de 3 años preparándo semillas para luego trasplantarlas a nuestro huerto en el patio.

The students in Infants are working on the Garden Project, incorporating learning about plants, how to care for them and our environment into our curriculum. Here are the three year olds preparing seeds to be later planted in out garden in the playground.

Para nuestro proyecto de jardinería hemos aprendido las diferentes partes de una planta y hemos observado las raíces de perejil en una actividad. Cuando los niños aprenden de dónde viene nuestra comida, cuidan del medio ambiente de forma natural. También tenemos una mesa de jardinería en nuestra clase para aprender los nombres de las frutas y verduras que vamos a cultivar.

For our gardening project we have been learning about the parts of a plant and observed the roots of parsley in one activity. When children understand where food comes from they naturally take care of the environment. We also have a gardening table in our class where we learn names of fruit and vegetables we will be growing.

En nuestra introducción a el proyecto de jardín, fuimos de excursión al parque cerca de nuestro colegio para observar el tiempo y aprender como predecir como sería el día siguiente. También pasamos un rato buscando colores en la naturaleza. Era invierno así que vimos muchos tonos de verde y al fin salió el sol y vimos el cielo azul.

In an introduction to "The Garden Project" we took a little trip to the park close to our school to look at the weather and how to predict what it will be like the next day. We also spent some time looking for colours in nature. It was winter so we saw lots of lovely shades of green and finally the sun came out so we saw some blue sky too.

The garden in Early Years is really coming along. The boys and girls have transplanted the seedlings and they are growing peas, beans, radishes, tomatoes and peppers.They will be able to eat all of these and learn first hand that we can all grow our own food.

The children in 1st grade were able to experiment with static electricity and play with small electrical shocks in class. It was a fantastic experience for them! To save energy in class, one student is responsible for turning off everything electrical, the lights, the projector and the speakers. We hope that this becomes a habit in school as well as at home and that between all of us we can reduce the impact ont he environment of the energy we use.

Los alumnos de primero han podido experimentar con la electricidad estática y jugar con ligeras descargas. Toda una experiencia! Para ahorrar energía en clase hay un encargado de apagar todo lo que lleva electricidad en clase: luces, proyector, altavoces. Queremos que esto se convierte en un hábito tanto en el colegio como en casa y entre todos ayudemos a reducir el impacto medio ambiental de la energía que gastamos.

Esta actividad es parte del ‘Technology Task’ de la unidad “Our world”. Los alumnos diseñan un comedero de pájaros con materiales reciclados (botellas de plástico, latas, envases de cartón, etc.). Primero, ellos crean un diseño que dibujan en su cuaderno y deciden los materiales a utilizar. Después, los construimos en clase con ayuda del profesor. El objetivo de la actividad es enseñar que un objeto puede tener muchas otras utilidades. Aunque la función para la que ha sido diseñado ya ha caducado, se puede reutilizar y fabricar otro objeto útil. Consecuencias fuera del colegio: cambiar la idea sobre un objeto. Intentar de identificar diferentes utilidades y poder reusarlo, evitando residuos.

This activity is part the technology task of the unit ‘Our World’. The students design a bird feeder using reused materials (plastic bottles, cans, boxes, etc.). First, they design their creation on paper in their workbook and decide what materials they are going to use. Next they built it in class with the teacher’s help. The aim of the activity is to show that an object has many uses. Although the object’s first function is no longer being used for it first use, it can be reused to make another useful object.Consequences outside of school: change our ideas about objects. Try and identify other uses and be able to reuse objects and avoid waste.

Esperamos que los alumnos adquieran hábitos de reciclaje responsables desde una edad temprana y abran sus corazones y mentes al cuidado de nuestro planeta por su propio futuro, el de su familia y la comunidad en general.

Como parte de nuestra política ecológica, alentamos el reciclaje responsable en la escuela y en el hogar. Nuestros alumnos tienen que recoger los recipientes de plástico y envoltorios sobrantes a la hora del almuerzo o merienda y colocarlos en los recipientes correctos.

As part of our Eco-policy we encourage responsible recycling at school and at home. Our students have to collect any plastic containers and wrappers left-over at lunch or snack time and place them in the correct containers. We hope students acquire responsible recycling habits from an early age and open their hearts and minds to caring for our planet for their own future and that of their family and wider community.

Our school is a Fundación SEUR collection point for lids. These lids not only help reduce CO2 released into the air but help raise funds for young children in need of specialised hospital care or equipment.

The students in 2PA are amazing collectors of lids to be recycled! They used mathematics to calculate the amount of kilos of lids they have collected. They weighed themselves with and without their bag of lids and subtracted to find out how many kilos there were. At they end they added up the goal which reached 21 kilos!

Nuestra colegio es un punto de recogida de tapones para la Fundación SEUR. Estos tapones no solamente reducen la cantidad de emisiones de CO2 pero también recaudan fondos para niños que necesiten una operación o equipamiento especializado.

¡Los niños de 2PA son unas máquinas recogiendo tapones para reciclar! Han usado las matemáticas para calcular la cantidad de kilos de tapones que hemos coleccionado. Los niños se pesaron con y sin su bolsa con tapones; hicieron una resta para calcular cuántos kilos habían. ¡Al final calcularon el total que llegó a 21 kilos!

Para ayudarnos a prepararnos para nuestras presentaciones de Show and Tell, leímos Danger in the Rainforest de Oxford Read and Imagine para aprender cómo se destruyen los hábitats de la selva tropical a través de la deforestación. Esto nos animó a investigar las especies en peligro de extinción debido a diferentes acciones del hombre como la caza, la sobrepesca, la contaminación plástica y la deforestación. Más tarde, cada alumno investigó sobre un animal específico y crear su Show and Tell para presentarlo en la clase en inglés.

To help prepare for our show and tell presentations we read Danger in the Rainforest by Oxford Read and Imagine to learn about how rainforest habitats are being destroyed through deforestation. This encouraged us to research the species that are endangered or highly vulnerable due to different human actions such as hunting, overfishing, plastic pollution and deforestation. Each student then had to research a specific animal and create a show and tell to present to the class in English.

Healthy Planet, Healthy Me

Our nature excursion reminded us all how enjoyable it is to be outdoors in the fresh air. We had great fun building stick dens which used visualisation and engineering skills as well as teamwork and leadership! We created Nature Art using whatever we could find around us.Nuestra excursión a la naturaleza nos recordó lo agradable que es estar en el campo al aire libre. ¡Nos divertimos mucho construyendo cabañas de palos que utilizaba habilidades de visualización e ingeniería, así como trabajo en equipo y liderazgo! Creamos Arte Naturaleza usando lo que pudiéramos encontrar a nuestro alrededor.

Reflecting on how and why the rubbish was there is a very powerful way to improve our own habits and become brave enough to point out to others what they should be doing.

En nuestra Unidad Shaping Up, explicamos que para tener un estilo de vida saludable, dependemos de tener un planeta saludable para que beneficiamos de aire y agua limpio y alimentos no tóxicos. ¡Comprender que la descomposición del plástico y los metales puede contaminar nuestra agua y el suelo y, por lo tanto, la comida es vital para enseñar a los niños la importancia de llevar esa basura al contenedor correcto!

In our Unit Shaping Up we explain that to have a healthy lifestyle we need a healthy planet to benefit from fresh clean air, clean water and non-toxic food. Understanding that decomposing plastic and metals can contaminate our water and soil and thus food is vital to teaching children the importance of getting that rubbish into a bin!

After our picnic we had a ‘Rubbish Attack’ where we pick up litter for 10 minutes. Then we sorted and analysed the rubbish and identified potential causes. We noticed that a good proportion of the rubbish came from our picnic bags!

Después de nuestro picnic tuvimos un "ataque de basura" donde recogemos basura durante 10 minutos. Luego clasificamos y analizamos la basura e identificamos las posibles causas. ¡Notamos que una buena proporción de la basura provenía de nuestras bolsas de picnic! Reflexionar sobre cómo y por qué la basura estaba allí es una forma muy poderosa de mejorar nuestros propios hábitos y ser lo suficientemente valientes como para señalar a los demás lo que deberían estar haciendo.

La mayoría de los niños consideran que el recreo es la "mejor" parte de la jornada escolar porque pueden jugar libremente con sus amigos. Sin embargo, hay otros alumnos que lo encuentran "aburrido". Estas cuatro alumnas dedicaron su tiempo libre después del almuerzo a recoger basura.

The Power of Just Doing Stuff

Una semana más tarde este equipo pidió permiso para trabajar en otro recreo donde están los niños más pequeños, porque en este patio había más basura que recoger, la mayoría siendo empujada hacia las vallas desde el exterior. El ejemplo del equipo de 4º ha inspirado a los alumnos de 2º también. ¡Mira sus caras de satisfacción!

La mejor solución es liderar con el ejemplo. Mientras estas chicas recogían servilletas de papel, pajitas de plástico de tetra bricks, recipientes de yogurt, envoltorios, otros alumnos prestaron su ayuda para recoger los residuos que veían en el suelo.

A week later the team asked permission to work on the younger age group playground because it had more rubbish to remove, most being pushed through the fence from the outside. The 4th graders example has inspired 2nd Grade too!

Most children consider break time the ‘best’ part of school because they can play freely with their friends. There are other pupils however that find it ‘boring’. These four pupils dedicated their lunch break to picking up rubbish. The best solution is to lead by example. As these girls were picking up paper serviettes, plastic straws from tetra bricks, yogurt drink containers, sweet wrappers, other pupils watching them lent a helping hand by picking up items near them.

En nuestro Show & Tell para el primer trimestre de este año escolar en la clase de inglés, queríamos que los estudiantes reflexionaran sobre algunos de los hábitos saludables que tienen y practican en su hogar y también propongan algunos hábitos que les gustaría comenzar a hacer.

A través de sus presentaciones, realmente vimos que la idea de que un estilo de vida saludable depende de un planeta saludable con aire limpio para respirar, agua limpia para beber y tierra limpia para cultivar alimentos saludables. Los niños también mencionaron con especial interés un hábito que la mayoría de ellos ya comenzó a hacer y tiene una gran importancia que es el reciclaje. Teniendo en cuenta los valores que Eco-School desarrolla en nuestros hijos y la necesidad de expresarlos a otros en algo que planeamos seguir promoviendo en nuestras clases de inglés.

In our Show & Tell for the first term this school year in English class we wanted the students to reflect on some of the healthy habits they have and practice in their home and also propose some habits that they would like to start doing. Through their presentations we really saw that the idea that a healthy lifestyle depends on a healthy planet with clean air to breathe, clean water to drink and clean soil to grow healthy food. The children also mentioned with special interest a habit most of them have already started doing and has great importance which is recycling.

En nuestra clase de inglés de 5º EPO, los alumnos tuvieron el desafío de investigar y hacer una presentación delante de la clase sobre uno de los ríos más contaminados del mundo. Cada alumno eligió un río diferente y aprendió las características generales sobre el río, así como por qué el río estaba contaminado y qué medidas se estaban tomando para mejorar la calidad del río.

However, there’s always a silver lining, and students were able to show what they as individuals and the rest of the world can do in order to prevent further pollution as well as improve the quality and natural beauty of these rivers.

A lo largo de su investigación y tras observar las presentaciones de sus compañeros, se dieron cuenta de que muchos de los ríos más importantes del mundo están contaminados. La mayoría de estos hermosos ríos sagrados y sus alrededores fueron contaminados únicamente por la acción del hombre, muchos de estos casos son irreversibles. Sin embargo, siempre hay un lado positivo, y los alumnos pudieron enseñar lo que ellos, como individuos y el resto del mundo, podemos hacer para prevenir una mayor contaminación y mejorar la calidad y la belleza natural de estos ríos.

In our 5th grade English class, students were challenged to research and do a presentation in front of the class about one of the Most Polluted Rivers in the World. Each student chose a different river and learned the general facts about the river as well as why the river was polluted and what measures were being taken to improve the quality of the river. Throughout their research and from watching the presentations of others, students came to the realization that many of the most popular rivers in the world are polluted, most of these sacred, beautiful rivers and their surroundings were polluted solely by the doing of man, and that many of these cases were irreversible.

Los alumnos aprenden a limpiar el agua filtrándose utilizando una botella de plástico, papel, algodón, arena y piedras. Objetivos de aprendizaje: Los alumnos han aprendido que el agua dulce es un bien muy preciado para nosotros. Ellos han aprendido que es esencial no desperdiciar el agua, aunque sea muy fácil para nosotros obtenerla simplemente abriendo un grifo.

Next we spoke about the relationships between units of measurement, for example, kilos of carbon emissions into tonnes and grams or litres of water used in a bath or a shower into kilolitres. Most importantly it reminded us that we ALL have to do our little bit to make our Planet a better place to live. How? On the one hand using, more and more, clean renewable energy and on the other hand using less and less materials that are not biodegradable.

During the Games Programme, 6B visited the Early Year Energy Mural. We discussed how important it was to realise that we need to care for our planet both in terms of reducing waste and carbon emissions. We discussed the rubbish found on our beaches and if they would be able to swim in a clean sea in 30 years time. To put this time span into perspective we calculated how old these students would be in 20 years time - 32.

Después estuvimos hablando de la relación entre las unidades de masa, por ejemplo, kilogramos de carbón utilizado, pasarlo a toneladas y a gramos o litros de agua utilizada en una ducha o baño, pasarlo a kilolitros. Sobre todo nos sirvió para concienciarnos de que TODOS debemos de aportar nuestro granito de arena para mejorar nuestro Planeta. ¿Cómo? Por un lado utilizando, cada vez más, las energías renovables y limpias y por otro lado utilizando, cada vez menos los materiales no biodegradables.

Hace unos días, durante Programa Juego, los alumnos de 6ºB viitaron el Mural de energia de InfantilEstuvimos viendo, una vez más, lo importante que era cuidar de nuestro planeta tanto en reducir los residuos como en emisiones de carbono. Hemos hablado de los residuos en las playas y si iban a poder bañarse en un mar limpio en 30 años. Para poner este tiempo en perspectiva, calculamos que edad tendrían los niños en 20 años - 32.

En la Unidad 3 sobre los Invertebrados del Reino Animal, nuestros estudiantes han estado aprendiendo cómo identificar todos los diferentes tipos de invertebrados y sus características. Sobre los nematodos, hemos visto que los gusanos de la especie Anisakis son cada vez más comunes en el pescado dirigido al consumo humano lo cual está provocando a su vez problemas muy serios para nuestra salud ya que esta especie puede dañar nuestro sistema digestivo. Nuestros estudiantes han estudiado esta problemática así como también qué soluciones para nuestra salud y la industria pesquera,

In Unit 3 Invertebrate Animal Kingdom, our students have been learning how to identify all the different types of invertebrates and their characteristics. About nematodes, we have seen that Anisakis worms are more and more common in fish for human consumption which is provoking very serious health problems as this species can damage our digestive system. Our students have studied the cause as well as what solutions could be carried out for our health and the fishing industry.

Pero lo más significativo y en el aspecto que los alumnos más comentaron en el posterior debate y puesta en común de ideas fue la cantidad de basura (plásticos, latas, neumáticos…) que se encontró en las redes y que suponen una prueba clara de la contaminación de nuestras aguas. El objetivo de esta actividad tiene un claro componente de concienciación y visión real de nuestros mares. El empeño de las organizaciones que luchan por la supervivencia de las especies no valdrá de nada sin la colaboración de todos.

La actividad desarrollada por el Departamento de Letras se fundamenta en la explotación marina a raíz del tema tratado en clase sobre la pesca en España, correspondiente a la materia de Geografía de 2º de bachillerato. Se proyectó a los alumnos un video sobre la pesca de arrastre y las consecuencias derivadas de esta práctica, sobre todo en relación a la cantidad de peces capturados y su escaso aprovechamiento, pues muchos de ellos son lanzados posteriormente al agua muertos por diversos motivos: especie de escaso valor comercial, el tamaño no es el permitido, exceso de cuota…

However the most significant, and the aspect most commented on by the students in the subsequent debate and sharing of ideas, was the amount of garbage (plastics, cans, tyres ...) that was found in the nets which represents clear proof of the amount of pollution of our waters. The objective of this activity has a clear component of awareness and real vision of our seas. The efforts of the organizations that fight for the survival of the species will not be worth anything without the collaboration of all of us.

The Humanities Department carried out this activity on marine exploitation based on a topic discussed in a 2º Baccalaureate Geography class on fishing in Spain. Students were shown a video about trawling and the consequences of this practice, especially in relation to the amount of fish caught and their low efficiency, as many of them are subsequently released into the water dead for various reasons: species of low commercial value, the size is not allowed or there is excess quota.

The droplets represent the tears of our planet suffering from the toxic effects of decomposing aluminum. Each droplet is made from the aluminium foil collected from secondary students during 1 playground. The quantity is quite shocking.Why is it a problem? Aluminium cans are cheap and easy to recycle material. However used aluminium foil requires expensive specialised machinery and many recycling centres do not have it as it makes the price of recycled aluminium foil too expensive to compete. Consequently most foil, even when it is put into the correct yellow container ends up in a landfill contaminating our drinking water.

Los voluntarios de EcoSchool en Secundaria crearon una escultura para concienciar sobre las consecuencias del uso de aluminio.

The Secondary EcoSchool Volunteers created a sculpture to raise awareness about the consequences of using aluminium foil.

Las gotas representan las lágrimas de nuestro planeta que sufren los efectos tóxicos de la descomposición del aluminio. Cada gota está hecha de papel de aluminio recogido durante solo un patio de recreo de secundaria. La cantidad es bastante impactante. ¿Por qué es un problema? Las latas de aluminio son materiales baratos y fáciles de reciclar. Sin embargo, el papel de aluminio requiere maquinaria especializada que no se suele comprar ya que hace que el precio del papel de aluminio reciclado sea demasiado costoso para vender. Como consecuencia, la mayoría de las láminas, incluso cuando se colocan en el contenedor amarillo correcto, terminan en un vertedero que contamina nuestra agua potable.

"Help young perople in need by bringing in your bottle tops and from your relatives and family businesses"

It has collected close to 1.200.000€ for orthopedic and medical treaments by recycling 6.542 tonenes of bottle tops. In the process it has avoided 8.198 tonnes of CO2 emissions, the main cause of climate change.In September students will be rewarded with 1 house point for every 500g of bottle tops collected.

As part of our EcoSchool activities we teach students how to separate their waste correctly and why. Separating our waste at home is the easiest and most cost effective method. This initiative run by SEUR allows for hard plastic bottle tops to be separated and directly recycled generating funds for children in need.To date Tapones para una nueva vida® has helped more than 171 children.

Ha entregado cerca de 1.200.000 € para ayudar a financiar tratamientos médicos y ortopédicas.El proceso ha reciclado 6.542 toneladas de tapones de plástico, evitando la emisión de 8.198 toneladas de CO2, principal gas causante del cambio climático. En septiembre los alumnos recibirán 1 punto para su casa por cada 500g de tapones.

Como parte de nuestras actividades de EcoEscuela, enseñamos como separar correctamente y el por qué. Separando nuestros residuos en casa es la manera más fácil y efectiva. Esta iniciativa dirigida por SEUR ayuda a separar y reciclar los tapones duros de plastico generando fondos para niños y ninas.Hasta la fecha Tapones para una nueva vida® ha ayudado a más de 171 niños y niñas a través del reciclaje de los tapones de plástico.

We need to support these types of initiatives as it is the future of how the private sector will take responsibility for the waste they create but also that we choose to purchase and use.

LAUDE Altillo School is a Terracycle collection point for writing material. Terracycle is a global award-winning business dedicated to providing solutions for difficult to recycle waste items.A circular economy is when all waste is collected and reused in the production cycle without ‘taking’ raw materials from nature again and without burying or burning waste. Conscientious businesses are implementing a collection loop to reuse their own waste such as their packaging. Terracycle with Envialia collect and return waste to these companies for reuse.

Necesitamos apoyar este tipo de iniciativas, ya que es el comienzo de cómo el sector privado se responsabilizará de los desechos que generan, pero también nosotros, como consumidores, elegimos comprar y usar.

LAUDE Altillo School es un punto de recolección de Terracycle para material de escritura. Terracycle es una empresa galardonada a nivel mundial, dedicada a proporcionar soluciones para desechos. Una economía circular es cuando todos los desechos se recolectan se reutilizan en el ciclo de producción sin 'tomar' materias primas de la naturaleza nuevamente y sin enterrar o quemar desechos. Las empresas concienciadas están implementando un ciclo de recolección para reutilizar sus propios desechos. Terracycle, con Envialia, recoge y devuelve los residuos a estas empresas para su reutilización.

Zero Waste Snacks

Our Zero Waste Snack programme has now been running for 2 years and growing in success. Breaktime snacks in school should only have reusable or biodegradable packaging. Habits are changing at home - foil use is declining, tetra bricks and individually packed biscuits are less common. Reusable water bottles are becoming the norm in Early Years and Primary. These simple habits have a large impact on total waste. Our school has 1200 pupils who come to school for 180 days. Just 1 disposable water bottle, tetra brick or yogurt container adds up to 216,000 containers every year. More students are bringing metal containers which have a longer recycling life compared to plastics.

One of the issues students have is not wanting to take a container to the playground and have to remember not to lose it! Hence most students take sandwiches wrapped in kitchen paper or baking paper out of their container in the classroom before going down to the playground. The unexpected spin-offs from this activity is that by avoiding pre-packaged food, students are more involved in the decision-making process of choosing their snacks which builds independence. As a consequence students are starting to prepare and even cook their own snacks. The snacks are becoming increasingly healthier - grapes, carrots, homemade yogurt, pumpkin seeds with raisins, raw sweet potato - amazing creative ideas that are spreading like wildfire amongst friends.

The obvious environmental benefit is less plastic waste contaminating our soil and water through landfill. Yet we gain much more:- less collection trips and pollution by rubbish trucks - lower town hall waste management costs resulting in local tax money being redirected elsewhere - consumers switching to more environmentally friendly products provides funds for expansion of greener products - a decline in sales sends a clear message to companies to change their packaging to keep their customers This year we started to track how many classes achieved Zero Waste for how many days and award the whole class for their team effort with house points.

Nuestro programa Desayuno Residuo Cero comenzó hace 3 años y está creciendo con éxito. Los desayunos que se traigan al colegio solo deben tener envases reutilizables o biodegradables. Es notable el cambio en los hábitos: el uso de papel de aluminio está disminuyendo, los tetrabrik y las galletas empaquetadas individualmente son menos comunes. Las botellas de agua reutilizables se están convirtiendo en la norma. Estos hábitos sencillos tienen un gran impacto en el desperdicio total. Nuestra escuela tiene 1200 alumnos que vienen a la escuela durante 180 días. Solo 1 botella de agua desechable, tetrabrik o contenedor de yogurt suma hasta 216,000 contenedores cada año. Además estudiantes están trayendo contenedores de metal que tienen una vida de reciclaje más larga en comparación con los plásticos.

¡Uno de los problemas que tienen los estudiantes es no querer llevar un contenedor al patio de recreo y tener que recordar no perderlo! Para resolverlo, la mayoría de los estudiantes sacan sus bocadillos envueltos en papel de cocina o papel para hornear de su recipiente en el aula antes de ir al patio de recreo. L0s resultados inesperados de esta actividad es que al evitar los alimentos preempaquetados, los estudiantes están más involucrados en la toma de decisiones para elegir sus bocadillos, lo que genera independencia. Como consecuencia, los estudiantes están comenzando a preparar sus propios bocadillos e incluso cocinar. Los desayunos son cada vez más saludables: uvas, zanahorias, yogurt casero, semillas de calabaza con pasas, batata cruda: ideas creativas increíbles que se están extendiendo naturalemente entre amigos. .

El beneficio medioambiental obvio es que menos residuos plásticos contaminan nuestro suelo y agua a través de los vertederos. Aun asi, ganamos mucho más: - menos viajes de recolección y contaminación por camiones de basura - los costes más bajos de gestión de residuos significa que el Ayuntamiento puede gastarlo en otros sectores - los consumidores que eligen productos más respetuosos con el medio ambiente redirigen fondos para empresas con productos más ecológicos - una disminución en las ventas envía un mensaje claro a las compañías para cambiar su empaquetado para mantener sus clientes. Este año comenzamos a rastrear cuántas clases lograron Zero Waste por cuántos días y premiamos a toda la clase por su esfuerzo de equipo con puntos para sus casas.
