HIDDEN WORLD OF PARABOLAS
HIDDEN WORLD OF PARABOLAS
Menaechmus (380 BC - 320 BC) found the parabola
Newton (1638 - 1675) studied properties of the parabola
Galileo (1564 - 1642) saw the objects falling due to the gravity due so in parabolic paths
Pappus (290 - 350) found the focus and directrix of the parabola
Apollonius (262 BC - 190 BC) named the parabola
HISTORY OF PARABOLAS
CONIC SECTIONS PARABOLA İS A CONIC SECTION
Conic sections are generated by the intersection of a plan with a cone.By changing the angle and location of intersection, we can produce a circle, ellipse, parabola or hyperbola; or in the special case when the plane touches the vertex: a point, line or 2 intersecting lines.
A parabola is a curve where any point is at an equal distance from: a fixed point and a fixed straight line.
GEOMETRIC DEFINITON OF PARABOLA
DEFINITON OF PARABOLA
Graphs of quadratic functions all have the same shape which we call "parabola."Equation :y=ax^2+bx+c

The rays coming to the axis of symmetry are collected at the focal point. The rays coming out of focus reflect parallel to the symmetry center and scatter the light

PARABOLA IS EVERYWHERE
The Rainbow is not a parabola. It is part of a circle. The Rainbow is seen at all points where the angle between the sunlight ( light directly from the sun) and the refractured light to your eyes have a fixed angle. 40° an 42°.These Points are part of a circle. In most cases the earth is in the way so you only can see part of the circle. In rare cases we can see the whole circle.
Does a rainbow have a shape of parabola?
IS IT PARABOLA OR IT ISN'T?
The catenary curve has a U-like shape, superficially similar in appearance to a parabolic arch, but it is not a parabola.Equation of catenary:
