How does it work exactly?

This station uses a gas and a steam turbine together to produce up to 50% more electricity from the same fuel than a traditional simple-cycle plant . The waste heat of the gas turbine is routed to the nearby steam turbine, which generates extra power.

We can find one of these stations near our town, it's called "Central Térmica de cicle combinat del Besós". It's next to the Mediterranean Sea, and it started working in 2011, after 3 long years of construction.

A combined cycle thermal power station is different from the other stations, because it produces energy in not one, but two ways. These kind of stations use both gas and water steam, so they produce more electricity.

What problems in the enviroment does it produce?

This station produces big problems in the environment, including land and water use, air emissions, thermal releases, climatic and visual impacts from cooling towers, solid waste disposal, ash disposal (for coal), and lots of noise.
