Task 2 - Principles of materials designing.
R: In my opinion, one of the most important principles is that of teaching, since the materials that will be taken into account for this must be carefully evaluated, taking into account the needs of the students. This is important since by identifying the needs of the students we will be able to design materials that are compelling for teaching.
In your opinion what are the most important principles in materials development, you need to explain their importance in your own words.
R: Authentic materials are those which are designed for native speakers: they are real resources designed not for language students, but for the speakers of the native language There are different types of authentic materials: auditory, visual, printed and realia. Example: Listening-tv commercials and movies. Visual: Photographs and drawings Printed: Articles, maps and brochures. Realia: Coins, notes and puppets.
What are authentic materials? Name at least 5 examples of authentic materials.
R: Non-authentic materials are teaching materials which are made and designed for teaching purposes only. These materials are planed, designed, and produced based on the curriculum and policy in each country Examples of inauthentic materials: Textbooks, workbooks, pictures, stories, audio books etc...
What are non-authentic materials? Name at least 5 examples of nonauthentic materials.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of using non-authentic materials in the class?
R: The complexity of authentic materials makes learning more complicated (Guariento & Morley, 2001). Therefore, non-authentic materials are believed to be more relevant to be implemented as the materials are simpler and more suitable for the EFL context.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of using non-authentic materials in the class?
R: It is suggested that the language taught in the classroom should reflect how native speakers use it. Consequently, authentic materials become popular. Klickaya (2004) characterizes authentic materials as materials that expose real life and how it is used in the target language.
