San Roque is the saint of Laudio, the worship for this saint has its origin in the plagues that occurred in the Ayala valley in the late sixteenth century. The citizens of Laudio prayed to San Roque for salvation from the plagues. In 1599 the Cofrady of San Roque was created, which still exists today. The first Sunday of August, the members of the cofrady take the image of the saint in procession around Laudio and then they pray for him in the San Pedro de Lamuza church.

History

It´s from the 15th to the last Sunday of August.

When it's celebrate?

Typical clothes

On the 15th the festivities begin with the traditional “txupinazo”. A firework is launched from the balcony of the Town Hall. When it explodes, people start pouring water and soda on each other, like a water war. Then the young people go from house to house asking to have water thrown from the balcony.

Txupinazo day

This day is called “kuadrilla eguna”. It gets this name because every activity is organized by the “kuadrillak”. Every year at that day they make a big lunch for every member of any of the “kuadrillak”. Along the day there are “herri-kirolak”, they are typical games in which people take part and have a good time.
