Silicon Valley is a technopole, located on San Francisco Bay in California in the United States, and probably the most famous one in the world. It gathers ones of the most important tech companies of the world and the concentration of all the companies located in this technopole makes it one of the most important pole of innovation. Hewlett-Packard (commonly referred to as HP) is a less famous company than Apple or Google, but it plays also a big part in the innovation in Silicon Valley. Created in 1939 by William Hewlett and David Packard, the business sectors of the company were initially electronics and instrumentation, but the society has evolved and they are now information technology, printers, servers and networks, softwares, and multimedia. HP was the first computer maker in the world from 2008 to 2012. A lot of its products were innovative, including its first one, a precision audio oscillator, innovative for its stability, its composition and its price. Nowadays, we owe this company the first pocket scientific calculators and then the first innovations on this products. Hewlett-Packard also made big advances on the printers. Representing a quarter of its turnover in 2008, because HP was producing the half of the printers in the world at this time, the company also created a new innovative language for them, and decided to put innovation first on this products, at all levels (environment, reliability, quality and performance). And the quality is the real innovation of the company, recognised since their first products for their reliability. Nowadays, even if Hewlett-Packard is not the first computer maker in the world, the company keep on innovating on its products and is still one of the most important competitors in the sector, and one of the best-known.
