Energy Transformations

Kinetic Energy & Thermal Energy

HOW CAN WE MEASURE ENERGY?

We use joules (J) to measure Energy.
But we can also use calories (cal) to measure the Chemical Energy stored in food and drinks.

1 joule = 0,24 calories
1 calorie = 4,18 joules

1 J = 0,24 cal
1 cal = 4,18 J

ENERGY SOURCES

Renewable

Hydroelectric

energy

From water that is moving or falling

Wind

energy

From the movement of air

Solar

energy

From the Sun in the form of light and heat

Biofuels

From plant and animal products

Non-Renewable

Petroleum

It's the source of the fuel oil, diesel fuel and petrol

Coal

Black rock composed mainly of carbon

Natural

gas

Mixture of gases formed from decayed living organisms

Uranium

Radioactive metal found in rocks

The three Rs

Reduce

buy products that don't have a lot of packaging

Reuse

use glass, metal and plastic containers again and again

Recycle

separate rubbish and put it in the correct bin
