THERMAL POWER STATION

+ INFO

Termoelectric plant is a plant, in which we gain electric energy with burning fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas)

INTRO

Thermoelectric plants cannot completly convent energy and fuels in electric energy. Modern thermoelectric plants have arounf 40% efficiency. Around 60% of energyturns up like wasted warmth and they need to take it away in the surroundings. Wasted warmth can be used for heating but is in most cases thrown. The easiest is to sewage themperature in rivers, lakes, sea or in the aphsmophere

CONSUMPTION

Heating plant is thermoelectric plant, in which combined warmth gatheres in useful shape and passes to users. That is how we expand efficency on 80-90%. Example of that plant is thermoelectric plant-heating plant Ljubljana and thermoelectric plant Šoštanj.

Thermoelectric plant, especialy the ones that use coal are a really if not the biggestdamage to the enviorment. Thermoelectric plant with power of 1 GW needs around 3-4 millions of coal, and reduces 7-8 millions of CO2 per year.

POLLUTOIN

Thermoelectric plats that use coal are the main reason for smoke, acid rain and polluted air.

ECOLOGICALLY HARMFUL EMISSIONS

Nitrogen oxides are the reason for ozon on the ground, for the smoke, they cause breathing problems, asthma and other problems. Tipical emissions are 3300 tons per thermoelectric plant.

Dust and ash can reduce vision and cause bronchitis, asthma and early death. We are able to catch around 995 particles, emissions are around 500 tons per year.

Emissions of quick silver are around 80 kg per thermoelectric plant, 50 kg lead, 2 kg cadmium, 20 tons carbon monoxide, 220 tons unburned hydrocarbons.

We have four thermoelectric plants in Slovenia: Ljubljana Moste, Šoštanj, Trbovlje and Brestanica
