Spanish people eating habits

1. BREAKFAST

On weekdays adult people usually have breakfast between 7:30 and 8:30 because most people start work at 9. Apart from that, parents take their children to school at about 8:50 and then they go to work.

Adults usually have breakfast at about 7:30 or 8:30 from Monday to Friday because most people start work at 9.

Adult people normally have breakfast at home. They usually have breakfast in the kitchen but they sometimes do it in the living room. It depends on how much time they have got.

Who with?

They usually have breakfast at home with their children and their family. Grandparents sometimes live at home so they have breakfast all together.

Weekends 9:30-11:00

On Saturdays and Sundays Spanish people normally wake up later than usual. They sometimes get up at about 9 or 9:30 so they have breakfast between 9:30 and 11:00. Small children usually wake up early at about 8 or 8:30 but they sometimes watch TV before having breakfast. However, teenagers usually get up at about 11.

Where?

Spanish families sometimes go to a café for breakfast at the weekend. They sometimes have breakfast with their friends and family. They sometimes have hot chocolate and churros for breakfast instead of coffee and toast. It´s a different and special day. Apart from hot chocolate and churros, adult people sometimes have breakfast with a group of friends. They sometimes have fried eggs, chips, mushroom and green pepper for breakfast at about 10 or 10:30. They usually drink red wine or beer for this breakfast.

2. MID-AFTERNOON SNACK

Spanish people normally have a mid-afternoon snack. We call it merienda. We usually have some bread with ham or cheese, a sandwich and some fruit. Small children sometimes have their merienda in the park while they play or at home watching TV. Adults sometimes just have a coffee with a dash of milk, a white coffee and a couple of biscuits or a tea and some fruit.
