Faust Vrančić (1551. - 1617.) ● linguist and an inventor ● the most famous for his parachute design ("Flying Man") ● published a dictionary of five most respectable European languages - many mathematical terms in Croatian (the names of the numbers, angle, equality, multiplication, division...)

Marin Getaldić (1568. - 1626.) ● studied in Italy, England and Belgium ● achieved the greatest results in physics (optics) and in mathematics ● calculated the volume of the Earth using geodesic method - the most accurate results by then ● had a great impact on developing the application of algebra in geometry

Ivan Belostenec(1594. - 1675.) ● formed a Croatian dictionary of terms in natural sciences and mathematics ● contains terms from our local kajkavian dialect ( triangle - trojvugel, rectangle - prav vuglast...)

Ruđer Bošković (1711. - 1787.) ● loved to study and showed great talent from an early age ● physicist, astronomer, mathematician, philosopher, diplomat, poet, theologian, Jesuit priest ● studied logic, physics, mathematics and astronomy at the Roman College ● familiar with works in the fields of construction engineering, archeology, contributions to optics, philosophy and theology ● critically refers to different definitions of direction ● solved the problems of celestial mechanics, the problem of tides, the problem of perturbations of Jupiter, etc.

Vatroslav Bertić (1818. - 1901.) ● published the book "Something about Maths" - he considers mathematics as one of the foundations of cultural education ● "Literature News" - he discusses the importance of mathematics and the need to teach mathematics ● the first in Croatian history to achieve some results in the field of mathematical logic
