What is it?

Gamification is a simple idea, but above all, revolutionary. It consists in enjoying every moment of our work, without worrying about it being tedious. Motivation is key and games are the way to make it happen. To accomplish this, we can get help from escape games, puzzles, mazes, quizzes, and click-to-actions.

Engage

Business

Create your own geniallys so that your students can learn through play. Create games for review and studying or let your students create their own games to challenge the rest of the class.

Engage your audience with gamification related to events or interesting news. Will they find all the clues about a certain topic? Will they solve the riddle to discover the character?

Generate an environment of participation within your company by posing challenges and riddles through gamification. You can also create marketing campaigns with games or fun activities that will capture the attention of your clientele.

Caracteristics

TextContent in layersThe textual load will vary depending on the type of gamification you want to create. In that way, a breakout will have a higher textual load than a click-to-action. As always, it is important that you play with visual metaphors in order to avoid an excessive amount of text.

Pages Depend on the type of creation. The number of pages will vary between 1 and 20. A maze, for example, can be 1-page, while a breakout could contain numerous pages.

InteractivitySecondary information, in layers. Interactivity is especially important in breakouts, where the connections between pages are fundamental for telling your story. You can include buttons and markers to draw your audience's attention to areas with additional content or make use of invisible areas so that your audience investigates and looks for hidden clues.

AnimationCapture attention and set the scene. Animation can be your ally when it comes time to establish the level of difficulty of a gamified genially. Animate the areas with interactivity to help your audience out, or leave it up to them to search and find them.

IntegrationGive clues and set the scene. A video could be the perfect introduction to your gamified creation. Embed audiovisual content from the main video platforms. add music to your creation to create an atmosphere that brings an added value to your genially and engage your audience even more.

Content LoadFind a balance between images and text. The content load is average. Remember the entertaining tone of the creation when it comes time to choose images, videos, and the text that you are going to include.

Navigation ModeNavigation depending on the type of creation.

  • Standard navigation mode: Useful for puzzles or mazes with two pages: a cover page with an introduction and the activity page, so that the user can read the instructions whenever needed.
  • Video navigation mode: If you want to add a time factor to your gamification. Will they be quick enough to answer?
  • Microsite navigation: Necessary for breakouts, quizzes, or simply, whenever you want to be in control of how to navigate between pages.

BackgroundAdd static or animated backgrounds.Combine base and canvas backgrounds. Remember that base backgrounds make transitions between pages more visual as well as allow them to be displayed amazingly on any device.

DimensionsYou choose. The canvas size can be freely changed, so you can create the canvas in the size of your choosing. Keep in mind which device your users will be using to access your creation in general: will they be using computers, tablets, mobiles,...? You can also opt to choose a template, with a pre-established canvas size.

DisplayChoose the configuration that best fits your needs at every moment. Among the display options, you can keep the share Genially option activated. Keep the Interactivity Indicator option deactivated if you're working with a breakout or a gamification in which you use invisible areas to hide clues. Activate the option to draw for mazes or word connections and the option to drag for puzzles or breakouts that contain tasks which require moving objects. Remember to keep the Full screen option activated so that your gamification can be displayed in detail.

Structure

The structure will depend on the the type of gamification you are creating. In general, there will be a cover page and a closing page. Between them, you can distribute the pages as necessary depending on the needs and objectives of the genially. Make use of templates to gamify in a fast and easy way.

Share and download

Work collaboratively and share your gamification

Spread your message with style. As always, the options to share and download your genially will depend on your plan, but you can always create and edit from any computer. Downdloading your creation in JPG or PDF is not recommended if we are talking about gamifications with a lot of interactivity although it could be useful for puzzles and mazes. You can also download in HTML5 to maintain the interactivity and animation. However, remember that content embedded from the web (video, audio, etc.) will not work without a connection to the internet.

Create a mock-up/drawing on a piece of paper before starting to create your gamification, above all, in the case of escape rooms. That way, you can ensure that your pages are connected properly and your audience will be able to solve the challenge.

Animation is your ally

Apply the "mouse hover" > "disappear" animation effect to create a "scratch-off" type game in a fast and easy way.
