He began his working life as a coal miner at Douglas Water, then he moved to Rosewell to find work.
When the mine he worked at got closed he moved to Bilston Glen Colliery. He retired after 50 years.
His father died before he was born and he was raised by his mother and stepfather.
EARLY LIFE
Dan McKinnon grew up in Stonehouse in South Lanarkshire with his brother and sister.

Towards the end of his career, an accident down the pits shattered his ankle so he was moved to work in Bilston Glen's office until retirement.

Dan Mckinnon married Nan Scott, the moved to a house in Rosewell, they were married for 66 years until Nan´s death. They had three children (Robert, Roddy and Ann), five grand-children and eight grat grand-children. He still lives in Rosewell with his eldest son Robert.

He and his wife created a bowler club named THE ROSEWELL MINERS BOWLING CLUB
His friends from the mine throw him a birthday party
100-year-old is in good health, with no chest problems despite working as a miner for 50 years.
