THREE VITAL FUNCTIONS
HUMANBODY
The human digestive system is a group of organs that extract nutrients from food and eliminate waste products.Food can take between 24 and 72 hours to pass through the system.

Digestive System
How our Digestive System works?
INTESTINES
MOUTH
OESOPHAGUS
STOMACH
AUX. ORGANS
Digestive System Organs
The tongue moves food around our mouth, forming a ball called a bolus.
Saliva makes food easier to chew and swallow.
We bite, crush and chew the food we eat with our teeth.
copy
Mouth
The epiglotis is a flap of cartilage at the top of the oesophagus that covers the trachea and stops food from going into the lungs.
When we swallow, the bollus passes into this long and flexible tube.
copy
Oesophagus
The muscular walls of the stomach mix the food and gastric juices to form a liquid called chyme.
Gastric juices break down the food and kill dangerous bacterias.
copy
Stomach
These liquids break down the chyme into basic nutrients: proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals.
The chyme is mixed with bile from the liver and pancreatic juices from the pancreas.

Liver, pancreas and gallbladder
Food waste passes into large intestine, where extra water is absorbed back into the body. The rest of the waste leaves the body.
The nutrients pass through the thin walls of the small intestine and they are absorbed into the blood.

Intestines
The respiratory system takes oxygen (O2) from the air and eliminates carbon dioxide (CO2) when we breath out.Our cells combine oxygen with other nutrients to make energy.
copy
Respiratory System
How our Respiratory System works?
The trachea goes down into the chest and then it divides into two smaller tubes called bronchi.
When we breathe in, the air enters our nose and mouth and it passes into a long tube called trachea.
copy
Respiration
At the end of each bronchiole, there are tiny air sacs called alveoli. Each one is covered by many tiny capillaries that carry blood.
Each bronchi is divided into smaller ones. The smallest ones are called bronchioles.
copy
Respiration
Oxygen passes through the walls of the alveoli and into the blood. At the same time, carbon dioxide passes out of the blood and into the alveoli. When we breath out the carbon dioxide leaves the body through the nose and mouth.

Gas Exchange
The diaphragm goes up / expands. The ribcage contracts.Air flows out.The lungs deflate.
The diaphragm goes down / contracts. The ribcage expands.Fresh air flows in.The lungs inflate.
ExhaleBreath out
InhaleBreath in
Under the lungs, there is a large, flat muscle called the diaphragm.
Breath in and out

The circulatory system carries blood around the body. Its main organ is the heart.
copy
Circulatory System
is a liquid. it carries nutrients and waste substance.
PLASMA
carry oxygen and carbon dioxide.
RED BLOOD CELLS
are particles that join together. This helps to stop bleeding.
PLATELETS
attack any bacteria or viruses that enter the body.
WHITE BLOOD CELLS

Heart

How our Circulatory System works?
In systemic circulation, the heart pumps oxygenated blood to the rest of the body. Then the deoxygenated blood returns to the heart.
In pulmonary circulation, the heart pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs. Then the oxygenated blood flows back to the heart.

SWEAT GLANDS
URINARYSYSTEM
The excretory system eliminates waste products. It includes the urinary system and the sweat glands.
copy
Excretory System
The urinary system helps to keep our blood clean and healthy. It removes waste products and then eliminate them from the body.
Urinary System

Our body also eliminates waste through sweat glands in our skin. When we get hot, our sweat glands excrete sweat to cool us down. Sweat is a mixture of water, salt, and other minerals.Sweat leaves the body through tiny holes in the epidermis called pores.
