Madame Butterfly is Puccini’s famous opera which premiered in Milan, Italy.It was first performed on February 17, 1904.
In order to make the opera more likable, Puccini shortened the second act. The final form of Madame Butterfly was released in 1906. It’s aria, “Un bel dì,” is one of the most famous in the world.

When it was first performed on February 17, 1904, critics disliked it. They derided the Japanese theme and called it a rip-off of La Boheme (also a Puccini opera).
Puccini researched the Japanese culture in order to write the play.
Madame Butterfly recalls the story of a Japanese geisha and her love for an American sailor.
