Eleonora d'Arborea

Bio

Because of the Arab advance in the Mediterranean Sea, Sardinia remained isolated and, between the 9th and 10th centuries, it was divided into four reigns called "giudicati".

Eleonora is one of the symbols of Medieval history in Sardinia.

La giudichessa

Eleonora assumed the regency of "Judge" on behalf of her son, who was too young to rule. The story of her character and her actions have become a legend: a proud woman, beautiful and deeply in love with her land, she set herself the goal of uniting it.

La Carta de Logu

She proclaimed a very important legislative charter for that time known as "Carta De Logu".

She's still celebrated every year during the traditional Carnival Parade called "Sartiglia" which takes place in Oristano.
