Martin Luther King
Your dream, our dream
Martin Luther King was an exceptionally intelligent student and began attending university when he was just 15.
Martin Luther King Jr. was an American Baptist activist and pastor in the 20th century (he was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta and died on April 4, 1968 in Memphis at 39). He was known primarily for: fighting peacefully against segregation and racial discrimination in the United States. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964.
Martin Luther King warns his followers about the dangers of their legitimate struggle degenerating into violence, and understands that in order for the African-American community to conquer the place it deserves in American society, it must observe a behavior consistent with its purposes. Hence, affirm the importance of maintaining dignity and discipline. We must also remember that within the movements of social rights there were tendencies that opposed peaceful struggle.
In Martin Luther King Jr.'s most famous speech, "I Have A Dream", he spoke powerfully and eloquently of his desire for a future in which black and white people could coexist harmoniously and as equals. This speech, delivered on August 28, 1963 from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, was a defining moment in the Civil Rights Movement in the United States.
