A marvel of ancient architecture

Stonehenge is perhaps the world's most famous prehistoric monument. It was built in several stages: the first monument was an early henge monument, built about 5,000 years ago, and the unique stone circle was erected in the late Neolithic period around 2500 BC.

To put into perspective the amazing structure of Stonehenge, scientists estimate that it could have taken around 20-30 million hours for its construction using the primitive tools available at that time. Incredible, right?

There are 83 stones in Stonehenge of two different types. The largest stones are called sarsens, which measure up to 9 meters in height and weigh 25 tons on average. It is not yet known how the stones were transported to Stonehenge in ancient times, although there are many theories about it.

Its original appearance was likely quite diferent. It seems incredible that such precision and architectural organization could be achieved five millennia ago.
