"Christmas decoratiom looks nice, so we go and have a look at it every winter."Siham, 2017
Syrian winter traditionsIn Syria, we do not celebrate Christmas. We have only one day off which is on the first of January in this Christmas days some people go to a place where the Christian people live and have a look at how they celebrate . We also have a different calendar a year is only 355 days long. In our calendar, we have the year 1439 other calendar. They sometimes come in winter and sometimes in summer.
We have two big festivities in the year one of them is after Ramadan. It is called “Sugar festival” and last three days long. The other one is called “Victim festivity. It is four days long and comes two months after the first one. During the second festivity, fresh lamb meat is given to the poor people because the meat is rather expensive. All the people buy new clothes before each festivity. The children get presents on the first day.Written by Siham, Yazan and Barah for the Erasmus Project “TogEUther” in 2017
