GEOSPHERE

THE SOLID PART OF EARTH

THE EARTH AND ITS GEOSPHERE

WHAT IS IT?

THE GEOSPHERE

THE EARTH´S LARGEST LAYER

  • It is the layer on which we live.
  • The other layers of the Earth organise around it.
  • It is a layer formed mainly by rocks.

THE GEOSPHERE´S LAYERS

WHAT ARE THEY LIKE?

THE STRUCTURE OF THE GEOSPHERE

THE EARTH´S LARGEST LAYER

The Earth is divided into three layers

  • CRUST

The CRUST is:

  • The most external layer
  • The thinest layer
  • A solid and light layer.

  • MANTLE

  • CORE

The CRUST is:

  • The most external layer.
  • The thinnest layer.
  • A solid, rigid, light layer.

The MANTLE is:

  • The middle layer.
  • The thickest layer.
  • A layer with some melted areas (magma).

The CORE is:

  • The most internal layer.
  • The hottest layer.
  • It is divided in two layers:
    • The outer core: fluid.
    • The inner core: solid.

COMPONENTS OF THE GEOSPHERE

ROCKS

ROCKS

Components of the Geosphere

Rocks form the solid part of Earth.Rocks are:

  • Natural
  • Aggregates of one or more minerals
  • Inorganic
  • Crystalline

They are formed in NATURE

ONE MINERAL MORE THAN ONE MINERAL

It is NOT a ROCK because it is formed by an ALIVE ORGANISMS

Because MINERALS form CRYSTALS.

IDENTIFICATION OF ROCKS

BY THEIR CHARACTERISTICS

SEDIMENTARIAS ROCKS

METAMORPHIC ROCKS

IGNEOUS ROCKS

Formed by compacted SEDIMENTS.

Formed when other rocks are under an increase of PRESSURE or HEAT but they don´t melt.

Formed when MAGMA , melted rocks, solidify.
