- THE CITY: built at the confluence of the Rivers Ouse and Foss.
HISTORY
Founded by the Romans. It became in one of the two capitals of Roaman Britain.
They built walls and fortesses where the cathedral is currently located.
In 866 there was a Viking invasion. The Thay turned the city into an important center of fluvial commerce.
After the Romans, Saxons arrived and became the capital of the Kingdom of Northumbria.
