Lorby Comms
Lorby Comm's is a software representation of the communication equipment commonly used in wildfire and emergency management aviation operations.
This software provides a communication link between users via the Lorby Comms Server through a voice over internet protocol. The key functions of the communication systems are operational and will effect the communication link between users.

Lorby Comms Client
The Client software is used to connect to the server and display the communication panel.
Select both the microphone and speakers that you want to use with Lorby Comms. These options are taken directly from the Windows list of connected devices.
Move between the individual panels within Lorby Comms Client software.
Closes the Client Software, you will be questioned once prior to the software closing.

Connects the Client software to the Server as per the IP address and port entered above When you are connected to the server, the button will turn green. If at any point the Client loses connection to the Comms Server the panel displays will show xxx.xxx Simply reconnect to the Server, the Client will remember your previous channel settings.

When recording audio into your computer, your sound card needs some time to process the incoming information. The amount of time allotted for processing is called the buffer size. Often times a smaller buffer size is desirable, however, not one that is too small. The default setting of 20 should work well on most computer systems.

Panels
This is where you select which devices are to be displayed.
Choose which devices will be displayed when the panels are open. Any combination of panels can be opened to suit your specific needs.
Resets the size and position of the selected panels to the default position.
Open or close the panels, if you have using a Wildfire Training Solutions hardware device to control the software there is no need to have the panels open in the software as well.
Logs you out of the server and closes the Lorby Comms Client. You will get one warning prior to closing.
You have the option for the panels to open as soon as you run Lorby Comms client or not.

Intercom
Allows you to connect two instances of Lorby Comms Client via a hands free intercom connection. This allows two people in different places to fly together and communicate as though they were in the same aircraft.
Logs you out of the server and closes the Lorby Comms Client. You will get one warning prior to closing.
Adjusts the sensitivity of the microphone that is being used.
You can connect multiple clients together and have them function as though you were using a hands free intercom system. Both users simply chose the same intercom channel and it will be as though they were in the same aircraft together with a live mic.

Copilot, dual mixer box option
Many birddog aircraft will have dual audio mixer box's allowing the pilot and AAO to individually select the active channels they are hearing. To simulate this you can open a second version of the Lorby Comms Client, the software will automatically recognize this is the second instance of the software running on the same computer, you will see Copilot in the lower left of the new application screen.

Satphone
Chose the number you will recieve incoming phone calls on. The list is based upon the master list as setup in the Lorby Server Software.
Select which satphone number you will be receiving calls on. If you do not have a sat phone simply select "none". The master list of satphone numbers is generated by the server application, the client is updated upon connection with the server.

Flight Sim
In some cases you may want the Comm Radio's to be connected to flight sim. There is no requirement for this function to be selected though as Lorby Comms is a stand alone application with no requirment to be connected to a flight simulator.
Automatically searches for and connects to an instance of flight sim running on the same computer as the comm's software.
Logs you out of the server and the closes Lorby Comms Client. You will get one warning prior to closing.

Keys
Customize your joystick or keyboard to better utilize the functions within Lorby Comms.
Logs you out of the server and closes the Lorby Comms Client. You will get one warning prior to closing.
Allows you to enable custom key strokes for various functions within Lorby Comms. You could set up a push to talk (PTT) button on your joystick or yoke for instance using this page.
Select a function from the dropdown list above and then click the modify button to select a new keyboard or joystick button to activate the particular function.

Hardware
This page is used to communicate with custom hardware built by Wildfire Training Solutions. Instructions for using this page will come with the hardware. If you don't have comms hardware this page should be ignored.

Managing the Radio Stack
Moving and Scaling the Radios
Left click and hold at the top of the panel to move and the bottom right to scale.
Mixer Box
The mixer box is used to select what channels the pilot or copilot positions are listening too and transmitting on. There is normally one mixer box for each the pilot and copilot positions.
This selector dial is used to select the device you will be transmitting on. ie radio, sat phone etc. You can only transmit on one device at a time.
The TX light indicates that you are currently transmitting.
The toggle switches are used to select what channel is being monitored. If the switch is in the up position you will be listening to that channel.
Adjusts the overall volume of the Lorby Comm's software.
To move the mixer box simply left click on the top edge of the panel and drag it to its new location.
Panels are resized by left clicking the lower right edge of the panel and dragging the device to the size you require, then release the left click.
Comm radios
The comm radio's are designed to represent and function similar to many VHF aviation radios. The comms radios operate in the VHF frequency range setup in the Master within the Comms Server Software.
MHz adjustment knob, used to adjust standby frequency only.

Transfer button moves the standby frequency up into the main frequency position. The main then moves down into the standby position.

To move the Comm Radios simply left click on the top edge of the panel and drag it to its new location.
Panels are resized by left clicking the lower right edge of the panel and dragging the device to the size you require, then release the left click.
TFM-138
The comm radio's are designed to represent and function similar to many VHF aviation radios. The comms radios operate in the VHF frequency range setup in the Master within the Comms Server Software.
To move the TFM-138 simply left click on the top edge of the panel and drag it to its new location.

Primary frequency in use on the radio
Toggle between Guard one and Guard two frequencies
The Guard frequency selected.
Toggle switch used to select between the Main and the Guard frequency for transmitting.
Function key put the radio into programming mode
Used to move a main frequency down into one of the Guard channel positions
used to confirm the selection of a tone.
Used when in programming mode to select a specific tone for the selected frequency.

Satellite phone
The satellite phone functions much like any satphone installed in many wildfire and emergency management aircraft.
Used to answer an incoming call.
Adjusts the colour of the display.
Used to connect to the phone number selected.
The numbered keys are used to select one of the predetermined sat phone numbers as per the Master list in the Server software. The master list is updated in the Client software upon connecting with the Server.
