I'm John Barnes , the gardener. You want to know what I was doing this morning at 11 o'clock ? Well, I was mowing the lawn in the garden. I didn't hear anything. ......and I didn't kill Sir Cardwell for sure ! You should ask Bruce Batchelor, the neighbour . He often walks his dog in the morning in Sir Cardwell's garden.

Good afternoon ! I'm Bruce Batchelor , I live in the house next to Sir and Lady Cardwell. What was I doing this morning at 11 a.m ? Well , I was walking Scottie when I heard a gunshot coming from the house. I looked around but I couldn't see anything. Scottie was running in the garden and when he heard the shot he was terrified, poor thing ! Pardon ? You're asking me if I was alone ? Well, no, I was with Scottie !! But while I was walking I think I heard the sound of a lawn-mower...It must have been Mr Barnes, the gardener.. Well, this is all so sad..Poor Sir Cardwell ! Have you talked to his wife, Lady Cardwell ? I think she is in the house.

Good afternoon ! Yes, I'm Lady Cardwell. I'm sorry but I can't talk to you for long, I'm so upset..This is awful ! I was reading in the living-room when I heard the gunshot. I was alone, yes. It was all very quiet, except for the noise of the lawn-mower coming from the garden. And I think I heard Mrs Atkins, who was doing the washing-up in the kitchen. Paloma ? I don't know where she was, probably in her bedroom having a rest..This girl is so lazy !!! So , what was I saying ? Oh yes, when I heard the gunshot I rushed out and I met Mrs Atkins, coming from the kitchen. Then we went to the study and this is where we found....Oh God, I can't believe my loving Richard is dead !!! I'm sorry, but you should speak to Mrs Atkins in the kitchen, she will be more helpful...

Wait ! Who are you ? What are you doing here ??? Oh, I'm sorry...yes, of course...It's just that I've been pretty shaken by what happened this morning... Poor Sir Cardwell.... He was so nice...And poor Lady Cardwell too... Yes, I found the poor man in the study...No I didn't see anyone in the room or in the corridor. Well, just before I heard the gunshot I was in the kitchen , I was cleaning the dishes. I think Lady Cardwell was in the living-room , and I saw Mr Barnes, out of the window. He was walking this stupid dog of his !! I can't stand that dog , he always barks for no reason ! Sir Cardwell wasn't very fond of him either, to be honest... Well, at least this morning he was quiet.. Pardon ? Oh, you mean Paloma ? She's not Lady Cardwell 's daughter you know, only her step-daughter. If you want to speak to her she must be upstairs, in her bedroom.

Paloma Cardwell, yes, that's my name. Where was I this morning at 11 o'clock ? Here, in my bedroom. I was listening to music and rehearsing my choreography , for my talent show. Do you want to see it ??? Ok..never mind.. Have you found who killed my father ? Not yet ?? What are you waiting for ?? I think whoever did it came from the garden... When I heard the gunshot I looked out of the window and I saw a man running away. I didn't have time to see him very well, I just caught a glimpse of him, but I think he was tall , with brown hair. My step-mother ? I don't know where she was this morning and to be honest I don't care... Have you finished ? Well, if you don't mind, I'll have a rest now. What ? One last question? Alright...The picture on my desk ? It's my Dad.You want to see it ? Sure !

Sir Richard Cardwell was a very wealthy man. His will was opened this afternoon and we know only two people will inherit after his death : his second wife Lady Cardwell and his daughter Paloma. Now, have you guessed what happened ? Click on the lamp when you are ready.

Lady Cardwell met Mrs Atkins in the corridor immediately after they heard the gunshot...She couldn't have had the time to kill her husband, and go back to the living-room..

Really ??? You can't be serious ! Poor Mr Batchelor...He's just a nice old chap ..

And what on earth would be Mrs Atkins's motive ??? And don't forget she has a rock-solid alibi...

Come on !!! How could he have killed Sir Cardwell as Mr Batchelor saw him mowing the lawn ??

Well done !! You're such a brilliant detective !! Indeed, Paloma was lying when she said she was rehearsing for her talent show in her room : nobody heard the music ! And she was lying when she said she saw a man running out of the house : The gardener and Mr Batchelor didn't see anyone, and we know that Mr Batchelor's dog didn't bark..He surely would have barked if he had seen a man running past him ! Thank you very much for your help !
