HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSE ON WORKERS
by a palm oil plantation owner
by Italy team
"
Some children say: “The hardest thing is to gather the loose fruit because they are heavy. Our hands hurt and our body aches.” In my opinion, I provided work for many people who coudn’t afford the best for themselves or for their family. I don’t force the children but they want help their parents.

"
One of my staff says: “It felt like the eye was coming out of the socket” In my opinion, taking on many people I can’t completely guarantee the security of my staff. Moreover I pay my employees the correct salary.
"
"
My employees say: “We have rheumatism and our knee joints hurt… The foreman yells us if we don’t meet the target. We have to work through the pain otherwise the foreman will count us as only working for half a day if we don’t meet the target.” But the large supermarket chains ask me about tons and tons of palm oil and I can’t refuse it because I must earn lots of money.

“I regretted my decision to come here and work,” Zaw Myo Htike said. “I was also angry towards the agent for lying to me. But because I was already here, I decided to stay. In my opinion many people don’t appreciate my work because they think I’m a lyer, but they don’t know that I’m in a bad time. I do what I can do, I’m not a thief and I pay my employees.
