ENERGY EFFICIENCY

HOW CAN WE SAVE ENERGY AND USE THE ENERGY WE PRODUCE MORE EFFICIENTLY?

The 2012 Energy Efficiency Directive establishes a set of binding measures to help the EU reach its 20% energy efficiency target by 2020By using energy more efficiently, Europeans can lower their energy bills, reduce their reliance on external suppliers of oil and gas, and help protect the environment. Energy efficiency has to be increased at all stages of the energy chain, from generation to final consumption. At the same time, the benefits of energy efficiency must outweigh the costs, for instance those that result from carrying out renovations. EU measures therefore focus on sectors where the potential for savings is greatest, such as buildings.

EUROPEAN COMMUNITY

What can governments do to improve energy efficiency in the European Countries?

- Every year, governments in EU countries should carry out energy efficient renovations on at least 3% of the buildings they own and occupy- The public sector in EU countries should purchase energy efficient buildings, products and services- Give money incentives to people who improve the energy efficiency at home ( installing photovoltaic panels or double windows etc)

What can companies or energy power plants do to help people improve the energy efficiency?

  • energy distributors or retail energy sales companies have to achieve 1.5% energy savings per year through the implementation of energy efficiency measures
  • large companies will make audits of their energy consumption to help them identify ways to reduce it
  • monitoring efficiency levels in new energy generation capacities.

  • improving the efficiency of heating systems
  • installing double glazed windows
  • insulating roofs
  • switching off lights when not necessary
  • installing photovoltaic panels
  • avoiding charging mobiles too long

What can people do to save energy and use it more efficiently in their everyday life?

-We must switch of lights when we go out of the classroom-We have to switch off the interactive whiteboard.-We have to keep close the windows during winter-We have to turn down the radiators if in the classroom the temperature is too high

WHAT CAN WE OURSEVES DO IMPROVE ENERGY EFFICIENCY AT SCHOOL?
