Environmental problems
- The topic of my presentation is the impact of palm oil production to forests, wildlife and local people in Indonesia.
Deforestation in Indonesia has been a massive environmental impact on the country, home to some of the most biologically diverse forests in the world, ranking third behind Brazil and the Democratic Republic of Congo. I'd like to talk about the situation today. First of all, large areas of forest in Indonesia are being lost as native forest is cleared by large multi-national pulp companies and being replaced by plantations. Forests are often burned by farmers and plantation owners. As a result, it hurts wildlife and local communities. Wildlife loses their natural habitat or dies in flames while local communities have to breathe the air full of CO2 or are driven from their lands
Another major source of deforestation is the logging industry, driven by demand from China and Japan. Agricultural development and transmigration programs moved large populations into rainforest areas, further increasing deforestation rates. At present rates, tropical rainforests in Indonesia would be logged out in 10 years.

To sum up, most of the palm oil producing companies, especially Korindo are environmentally irresponsible. They are not only responsible for the endangered species which are put to closer extinction, for local people’s displacement but also contribute to global warming.
