The Mountain of the gods.Mount Olympus

The mountain Olympus is the highest in Greece. It has 52 peaks and it is 2,918 m.high. It was believed to be the home of the gods, in Greek mythology.

THE KING OF GODS

He was regarded with respect. He controlled the weather and the other gods. His symbols were the thunderbolt and the scepter.

The sixth child of Kronos and Rhea . Kronos ate his children so his mother hid him in a cave on mountain Idi in Crete.

He married his sister Hera but he had affairs with other goddesses and mortal women.

This is a sample of Cretan music featuring the famous Cretan dance 'pedozalis' and playing the typical Cretan musical instrument 'lira'.

The beast called Minotaur or Asterion.

He lived in the Labyrinth which was built by Dedalus .He ate human flesh.

Theseus , son of the king of Athens, Aegeus,killed the Minotaur with the help of Ariadne,daughter of Minos.

The Athenians killed King Minos's son, Androgeos and he wanted to punish them.

For this reason he ordered them to send 7 young boys and 7 young girls every nine years to feed the Minotaur.
