Spreading kindness coast to coast

Tommy Maher traversed the country spreading acts of kindness in towns where victims of the Las Vegas shooting lived or worked. He went 9,414 miles on the trip, which spanned 18 days. Riding in a "Pay it Forward" van, Maher, a retired NYC sanitation worker, 34-year fireman and commissioner of the South Hempstead Fire Dept., began the trip westward on Nov. 7 with his daughter, Kelli and her friend Aline. While Kelli and Aline had to fly back to attend school, Maher continued on to do as much good as possible.

These are the women we met at the pediatric center in West Virgina. We gave them these flowers as a random act of kindness in honor of Denise Bursitis.

Tommy thanked the Burnaby Firehouse in British Columbia for their service to their community. They were given a South Hempstead FD patch and a Joe Hunter decal (Tommy's friend who was part of FDNY squad 288 who died on 9/11) Tommy also bought them lunch in Honor of Canadians Jessica Klymchuk, Calla Marie Medic, and Tara Roe Smith.

This morning in Colorado we gave this waitress an envelope with money in it to pay for someone's breakfast, in honor of the first responders and survivors.

Tommy traveled to Tewksbury to Honor Rhonda LeRocque. She loved to cook and bake so Tommy dropped off gift cards for Capellini's Italian Restaurant at Mirabella's Bakery for their 3 bakers. Christine, pictured above, said she would make sure the bakers received the gift cards. Tommy also gave her one of the signs made in Carly Kreibaum's honor to pass along to the LeRocque family and in return she sent them on their way with some bakery treats.

Both Brenda and Laura are Route 91 survivors and Chicago PD heroes who protected others that night, including Alison and Amy from Sutherland. They were given one of the signs made in honor of Carly Kreibaum.

Tommy handed off Quinton Robbins bracelet to J'azmin at the Sports Complex in Henderson Nevada where Quinton worked.

“What a great way to honor those that lost their lives at Route 91. Many of the survivors are also “stealing” this idea and performing 58 random acts off kindness. Thank you Tommy and family.” -Liz Cowdery

This is Brianna, a Stellar Starbucks employee. She was given a $20 tip to brighten her day and thanked for her friendly, welcoming smile. This Random act of Kindness was in Honor of Denise Cohen.

Tommy and the girls went to Henry County Medical center to honor Sonny Melton. They paid for the whole ER departments lunch. In this picture is the director Deanne Berry, and Phillip, who are one of the few people who worked with Sonny Melton.
