Charles John Huffam Dickens was born the 7th, February 1812 in Landport, Hampshire, England.He left school to work in a factory when his father was incarcerated in a debtors' prison.

Despite his lack of formal education, he edited a weekly journal for 20 years, wrote 15 novels, five novellas, hundreds of short stories and non-fiction articles....

Dickens's literary success began with the 1836 serial publication of The Pickwick Papers

His 1843 novella, A Christmas Carol, with the character of Mr Scrooge, remains popular and continues to inspire adaptations in every artistic genre. Oliver Twist and Great Expectations are also frequently adapted.

On 8 June 1870, Dickens suffered another stroke at his home after a full day's work on Edwin Drood. He never regained consciousness, and the next day he died at Gad's Hill Place.

Although he continued to write successfully, Peter Pan overshadowed his other work. Barrie died of pneumonia on 19 June 1937 and was buried at Kirriemuir next to his parents and two of his siblings. His birthplace at 4 Brechin Road is maintained as a museum by the National Trust for Scotland.
