One of the most emblematic places of Lisbon, a must visit that requires an extended stop, is Praça do Comércio. Better known by Lisbon as Terreiro do Paço, since it was the Paço da Ribeira area until the 1755 earthquake, it is one of the largest squares in Europe. Praça do Comércio, better known as Terreiro do Paço, is a square in Baixa de Lisboa, located next to the river Tagus, in the area that was the site of the palace of the kings of Portugal for about two centuries and which today is partially occupied by some Government departments. It is one of the largest squares in Europe. It was once considered the center of the Government of the Country.
