Musical instruments 1 ESO (Bilingual Project)

@FPVMus para #SymbalooEDU (2017)

A musical instrument is an instrument created or adapted to make musical sounds. Instruments can be classified by the means by which they produce sound. We can classify instruments into five main groups:

  • Chordophones, which produce sound by vibrating one or more strings.
  • Aerophones, which produce a sound with a vibrating column of air.
  • Membranophones, which produce sound by a vibrating a stretched membrane.
  • Idiophones, which produce sound by vibrating the primary body of the instrument itself.
  • Electrophones, which produce sound by electronic means.

In this video you can watch and listen to all the instruments that you will have to identify, both visually and orally.

Have you ever asked yourself about the role of the conductor. You might find the solution in this funny video: Esa-Pekka Salonen talks about the role of the conductor:http://www.philharmonia.co.uk/explore/conducting Explore :: Philharmonia Orchestra The Philharmonia's Principal Conductor, Esa-Pekka Salonen, guides us through the intricate and subtle art of musical conducting, telling us that every orchestra is different and that sometimes an orange comes in handy! By the end of unit you should be able to differentiate musical instruments of a symphonic orchestra acoustically and visually as well as describe and identify most common types of instrumental ensembles (e.g. symphony orchestra, chamber orchestra, quartet, trio etc.)

It's important to know the name of the instruments both in English and in Spanish. Use this Quizlet to learn all the different names by playing ;-) http://quizlet.com/_12s6h6

An orchestra is a group of musicians gather together to make music but it has some rules and a specific distribution that you should be able to identify and explain. You can find an interesting diagram that can be really useful for you on this link: http://www.dsokids.com/visit-the-symphony/orchestra-seating-chart.aspx

Use this video to get more information about the different families in the orchestra http://study.com/academy/lesson/instrument-families-of-the-orchestra-string-woodwind-brass-percussion.html Instrument Families of the Orchestra: String, Woodwind, Brass & Percussion - Video & Lesson Transcript | Study.com There are so many instruments in the orchestra! Apart from the symphonic orchestra, there are some other instrumental groups that you should know (and recognize). You can find a visual summary on this presentation created by a 1 ESO student: Instrumental groups de coromonino

Your challenge:

  1. Choose one instrument.
  2. Prepare an interactive presentation related to it (it can be a video, a mind map, a poster, ...)
  3. The presentation should include, at least, an image of the instrument and a short explanation related to its parts, sound and history (don't forget to use free of rights images. You can find lots of them on Pixabay -visit the website and type an instrument name into the search box-)
Feel free to be creative!!!
