How live the natives?

It is thought that 40,000-50,000 years ago, the Pleistocene, the first Australians arrived from Southwest Asia. These first settlers had traveled from island to island.

The cultures

PAINTINGS Aboriginal painting is an art of millenary tradition. Represented motifs often tell legends, so it was assimilated to a form of writing.

LANGUAGES Before European colonization there weres 250 Aboriginal languages in Australia, that in the XXI century have been reduced to less than 20​

MUSIC The best known of Aboriginal musical instruments is the didgeridoo or yidaki, traditionally played by men of Arnhem Land and Kimberley religion, in northern Australia.​

​The Discovery of Australia by Europeans

The first European sighting of the continent was made in 1606 by the Dutch navegator Willem Janszoon.​

The Colonization of Australia

In 1770, the expedition under the command of James Cook, landed on Australia, which claimed the East coast of the continent to the kingdom of Great Britain and named it New South Wales.

The reason for establish a colony in New South Wales was to use it as a place of exile for the prison population and the trade between Japan and Britain.

The Natives after Colonization

Around 700.000 aborigenes were in the continent but, in 1911 (123 years after the English settlement) the were only 31000.

The most of aboriginals families lost their children because British took away them.

The Australian Capital Territory is well founded.
