was born on February 7, 1927 in Bileća.He was a cartoonist, author and director of animated films. He is the best known member of the Zagreb school of animated films.

In 1953, Vukotić became one of the founding members of Zagreb Film. Zagreb film is a Croatian film company principally known for its animation studio. It was founded in 1953. They have produced hundreds of animated films, as well as documentaries, television commercials, educational films and several feature films.Zagreb Film produced the worldwide known cartoon series Professor Balthazar (Croatian: Profesor Baltazar), created by Zlatko Grgić. The cartoon talks about an amusing professor who solved various imaginative problems.

SUROGAT

Dušan Vukotić is best known for directing animated film Surogat ("Ersatz").With Surogat, Vukotić won an Oscar for best animated short film in 1961. Surogat is the first foreign film which won the Oscar. Another of his films, Igra ("The Game"), was nominated for an Academy Award in 1964.

The first animated movie from outside the US which won an Oscar award for Best Animated Picture in 1962. Besides winning an Oscar, Surogat won many other prizes and awards such as those on movie festivals in Bergamo, San Francisco Oberhausen, Belgrade, etc. Film was modernly animated, and figures were geometric.

DUŠAN VUKOTIĆ received Lifetime Achievement Award at the World Festival of Animated Film IN 1994. At the time of his death, Vukotić was preparing a production of his new science fiction movie, co-written by the Croatian science fiction writer Aleksandar Žiljak.Vukotić died in Krapinske Toplice near Zagreb at the age of 71.
